The American Housing Survey (AHS) has data on different types of home equipment. This includes heating and air conditioning systems, cooking appliances, clothes dryers, and water heaters. This equipment is most commonly powered using electricity and gas, although in some cases fuel oil and other fuels are used. The use of equipment and fuels varies by the age of the home. Using data from the 2017 AHS, this brief describes the relationship between when homes were built and what types of fuel and equipment they use.
