Changes to Tables for the 2017-2021 ACS 5-year Release

Select Summary File Materials Released

The 2017-2021 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year Summary File will be released as a table-based format, replacing the prior sequence-based Summary File format. Each ACS Detailed Table will be available as a separate file containing the estimate and margin of error for all published geographies. To aid in this transition, the prior sequence-based format will also be available for the 2017-2021 ACS 5-year release but discontinued thereafter. Release Schedule

The 2017-2021 ACS 5-year estimates are scheduled to be released on December 8, 2022.  These data will be available for all geographic areas including census tracts, ZIP Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs), and block groups.

The 2017-2021 ACS 5-year Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) files and 2017-2021 ACS 5-year Variance Replicate Estimates are scheduled to be released on January 26, 2023. For more information on the release schedule, visit 2021 ACS Release Schedule.

2021 ACS 1-year Supplemental Estimates and Documentation Released October 20

2021 ACS 1-year Supplemental Estimates are available in data.census.gov and the API.

2021 ACS 1-year Supplemental Estimates are based on data collected from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021, and they are available for geographic areas with populations of 20,000 or more.

2021 ACS 1-year PUMS Files and Documentation Released October 20

2021 ACS 1-year Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) files are now available on the ACS website, the FTP site, and in the microdata analysis tool on data.census.gov. Supporting documentation such as the PUMS User Guide, Accuracy of the PUMS, and PUMS Estimates for User Verification have been released to help users with this release.

2021 ACS 1-year Estimates Released September 15

2021 ACS 1-year estimates are based on data collected from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021.

2021 ACS 1-year estimates are available in data.census.gov and the API. Data.census.gov works best in Google Chrome. Learn more about data.census.gov resources, including how-to materials, video tutorials, and more.

2021 ACS 1-year estimates are available for geographic areas with populations of 65,000 or more.

2021 ACS 1-year Table Shells and Table List

Table shells for the 2021 ACS 1-year tables and profiles are available on the FTP site. The 2021 ACS Table List is also available. It includes information, such as table IDs, titles, and universes, as well as 1-year/5-year availability, in one spreadsheet.

Select Documentation Released

Supporting documentation has been released to help users prepare for the release of the 2021 ACS 1-year estimates. Additional technical documentation will be released on September 15, 2022.

Release Schedule

The 2021 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates are scheduled to be released on September 15, 2022.  These data will be available for the nation, all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, every congressional district, every metropolitan area, and all counties and places with populations of 65,000 or more.

The 2021 ACS 1-year Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) files and 2021 ACS 1-year Supplmental Estimates are scheduled to be released on October 20, 2022.  For more information on the release schedule, visit 2021 ACS Release Schedule.
