OCT. 18, 2022 – The U.S. Census Bureau today announced the start of the 2022 Economic Census (the most comprehensive measure of the U.S. economy) with a mailing to selected small businesses asking them to update their North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code. NAICS codes are the standard used by federal statistical agencies in classifying business establishments for the purpose of collecting, analyzing and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy. Responses are due by December 6, 2022.
The 2022 Economic Census Classification Mailing, which will go to roughly 500,000 small businesses, should take 7 minutes or less to complete. Businesses that receive the mailing and have questions can visit our Information for Respondents page.
Data collection for all other businesses included in the 2022 Economic Census will officially begin January 31, 2023; responses must be received by March 15, 2023. More information about the 2022 Economic Census is available online.
