The census test will also refine technologies and methods to use existing information to increase operational efficiency. Finally, the test will focus on researching best practices to reduce follow-up operations with households that do not self-respond.

The test officially begins March 21, 2016, when residents will be able to complete the questionnaire online, by mail or telephone. Residents who do not complete the questionnaire will be visited by a census taker to complete the form.
