This report provides data based on the 1978 survey in a series of biennial surveys known as the National Sample of Scientists and Engineers. This report profiles computer specialists. Data include the age-sex-race composition of the target group, their geographic location by region and division, education and training, labor force participation, and salary, as well as professional experience and growth in numbers of persons in the field. The report also includes data on job mobility since 1972.
Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
