This report presents data on per capita and median family income in 1969 for states, standard metropolitan statistical areas (SMSAs), and counties ranked in descending order, from the highest to the lowest money income levels. Additional information on the proportion of families with incomes less than the low-income level in 1969 is also shown for these areas.
The data are presented in four tables:
Table 1 shows data for the United States by State;
Table 2 shows data for standard metropolitan statistical areas; and
Tables 3 and 4 show data for counties.
Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
