This report presents detailed statistics on selected social, economic, and housing characteristics for persons of Puerto Rican birth and persons of Puerto Rican parentage for the United States, regions, divisions, States, and selected standard metropolitan statistical areas (SMSA's) and cities. The statistics are based on the 1970 Census of Population.
The text consists of an introduction and Appendices A through E, which appear after the tables.
Content of the Tables
The tables in this report present data on the social, economic, and housing characteristics for persons of Puerto Rican birth or parentage living in the United States. In addition, several tables present data for families or households with Puerto Rican head.
Sample size. The statistics in this report are based on a 15-percent sample adjusted to represent the total population.
Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
