This report features comparisons between the families residing in the North and West, and those in the South. Data are presented on number and percent distribution of all families and of husband-wife families by region, race, and age of head, for 1970, 1969, and 1960. Data are also shown for median income in 1969, 1968, and 1959 of all families and of husband-wife families, by region, race, and age of head.
Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
