This report presents figures on the population of cities of 10,000 inhabitants or more, by wards, except in the case of four cities. For these cities--Long Beach, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, Calif., and New York City--the figures are given for assembly districts, that is, districts from which members of the lower house of the State legislature are elected. Other cities of 10,000 or more not divided into wards are excluded from the table.
The PDF to the right contains the 25-page report.
Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
