1900 Census Special Reports: The Blind and the Deaf

The data for this report were collected during the Census of 1900. Enumerators reported the name, age, sex, and post office address of each person alleged to be blind or deaf. A more complete return was secured by correspondence with the individuals. This was conducted under the direction of Dr. Alexander Graham Bell. He determined the scope of the investigation and specified the tabulations to be made.

Dr. Bell prepared the text relating to the deaf. The report includes an introduction, comparison with former censuses, and discussion of the results. Following are general tables, diagrams and maps.
