This is a final Census Report on Population of the Twelfth Census, taken in the year 1900. It incorporates statistics and other materials contained in the preliminary Bulletins of the Twelfth Census.
Part II, which constitutes Volume II of the Census Reports, relates to the following subjects: ages (by sex, nativity, color, etc.) , persons of school age, males of militia age, males of voting age, marital status, school attendance, illiteracy, ability to speak English, occupations, dwellings and families, proprietorship of homes, Territories of Alaska and Hawaii.
Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
