2020 American Community Survey 1-Year Experimental Data Release

Description

The U.S. Census Bureau held a webinar to explain and answer questions about the release of a series of estimates from the 2020 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year data using “experimental” weights. The ACS is one of the most comprehensive sources of information about the U.S. population, providing crucial demographic, social, economic and housing statistics. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly disrupted the ability to reach people and limited their ability to participate in the 2020 ACS. Therefore, the Census Bureau will release experimental data instead of the standard 1-year data products.

The webinar examines all 2020 ACS 1-year experimental data products also released Nov. 30, including:

  • Experimental data tables.
  • Technical working paper: “Addressing Nonresponse Bias in the American Community Survey During the Pandemic Using Administrative Data.”
  • 1-Year Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) File with experimental weights.
  • Blog: “An Overview of Addressing Nonresponse Bias in the American Community Survey During the Pandemic Using Administrative Data.”

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on data collection, the Census Bureau released experimental estimates and products from the 1-year American Community Survey data instead of the traditional 1-year estimates. A webinar was held on November 30, 2021 to explain and answer questions about the release.
